Christmas (From the Old English: 'Cristes Mæsse' meaning the 'mass of Christ') is an annual holiday that celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ. Although the exact date of Jesus’ Birth is not known, it is thought the 25th of December was chosen by the Catholic Church to celebrate his birth. This is likely because it coincides with the pagan rituals such as Mid-winter that are held at this time. Christmas has become the largest commercial holiday in the world. These days Christmas not only celebrates the birth of Jesus but also combines many other traditions throughout the world.
Christmas is generally celebrated each year on the 25th December, the date considered be the date of Jesus’ birth, however some cultures choose to celebrate on different dates such as the Armenian Apostolic church celebrates Christmas on January 6th and the Eastern Orthodox Church observes Christmas on the 7th of January.
