The candy cane is plentiful over the Christmas period. They are given as token gifts, used to decorate Christmas trees, and even used to decorate the outside of houses (fake candy canes of course!)
The Candy Cane itself holds special significance. It is believed that during the 17th Century confectioners created the sticks of white candy in the shape of a Shepard’s staff to represent the Shepard’s who watched over their flocks that Christmas night.
Even the colour is significant with the white staff of the cane representing Christ’s purity and innocence and the red stripes representing the blood he shed on the cross and the three red strips of the Holy Trinity.
